In a bold and slightly baffling move, Houston’s own Space City Brewery has unveiled its newest creation, “Scorcher,” a beer inspired by the famously brutal Houston summers. The brew, which is just a watered-down lager served warm, has left both beer enthusiasts and casual drinkers scratching their heads.

“It’s a celebration of the Houston summer experience,” said brewmaster Kyle O’Malley. “We wanted something that truly captures the essence of heat—so we took a lager, watered it down, and served it at a temperature that reflects the sweltering afternoons here in the city.”
The beer, which is being marketed as "refreshing in its simplicity," has a distinct taste reminiscent of hot pavement and forgotten sunscreen. According to the brewery, it’s “perfect for those who love to feel dehydrated and slightly regret their life choices."
“We know Houston summers are brutal, so we thought, why not make a beer that mimics that feeling?” said O’Malley, who seemed both proud and perplexed by the concept. “People are going to love it. It’s authentic.”
Local patrons had mixed reviews during the test launch. “It tastes like someone spilled their beer on a hot sidewalk and then decided to bottle it,” said Karen Ramos, a longtime fan of Space City Brewery. “I mean, I get the idea, but I’m not sure how many people want a beer that’s basically warm water with a hint of malt.”
Despite the lukewarm reception, Space City Brewery is pushing forward with the release. "We’re Houston. We don’t shy away from the heat, and neither should our beer," said O'Malley, offering samples to customers with a smile that hinted he might be secretly enjoying the confusion.
The brewery is already planning a follow-up, “Sweatstorm,” which will be just a can of saltwater and lime, best enjoyed while sitting in traffic on the 610 Loop.
