Google Maps Initiates Renaming Spree Under President Trump’s Directive

By Libby Teague, Patriot Branding Correspondent

In a bold move to “Americanize” place names, President Donald Trump has issued executive orders to rename several iconic locations, sparking both support and controversy. Critics argue these changes are unnecessary and divisive, while supporters view them as a celebration of American pride. Here are five places in the U.S. rumored to be next on President Trump’s list, plus one surprise addition from abroad.

1. French Quarter, New Orleans → Freedom Quarter

Despite its deep historical ties to France, the “French Quarter” is reportedly being considered for a rebranding. Sources close to the administration suggest that President Trump believes “Freedom Quarter” is a stronger, more patriotic name. Locals are fuming, with one Bourbon Street bartender saying, “It’s bad enough he’s trying to rebrand gumbo as ‘American stew.’”

2. Mount Denali, Alaska → Mount McKinley

In a move that has already been enacted, President Trump signed an executive order on January 20, 2025, to revert Denali back to its former name, Mount McKinley, honoring President William McKinley. This decision has sparked controversy, with the Alaska Legislature passing a resolution urging the federal government to retain the name Denali, citing its cultural significance to Indigenous communities.

3. San Francisco → Patriot Bay City

Known for its progressive values, San Francisco is reportedly up for a patriotic makeover. Insiders claim the proposed name, “Patriot Bay City,” aims to align the city with “American ideals.” Local officials have reportedly called the idea “absurd.”

4. Spanish Harlem, New York → Founders’ Village

The administration is allegedly considering renaming Spanish Harlem to “Founders’ Village” to “pay tribute to the Founding Fathers” while minimizing the area’s connection to its Latino heritage. Residents have already expressed outrage, with one activist calling the move “an erasure of our history and identity.”

5. Lake Erie → Liberty Lake

The smallest of the Great Lakes might soon be rebranded as “Liberty Lake.” This proposed change aims to symbolize the “American spirit” along the northern border. Canadians, however, aren’t thrilled with the idea, with one Canadian official stating, “We’re not renaming our side to ‘Maple Liberty.’”

6. Amazon River → Bezos’ Creek

In a surprise twist, there is speculation about lobbying to rename the Amazon River as “Bezos’ Creek” to honor Jeff Bezos’ global influence, particularly through Amazon’s contributions to the U.S. economy. Critics argue this change feels out of place and diminishes the cultural significance of one of the world’s most iconic rivers.

A Divided Reaction

Supporters say these changes are about “putting America first,” while critics see them as attempts to rewrite history and overshadow diverse cultural contributions. Whether these renaming efforts gain traction or not, one thing is certain: America’s map—and possibly the world’s—may never look the same again.
